So since I started it, when that time comes, will it be Ford, Dodge or GM that has the better cup holder? And will you put your trust in a cup holder of cheap plastic? Or will you trust something more solid?

I'm a Calvinist. My cup holder has been predetermined (darn it broke) but it may be a test. You, maybe your cup holder has to keep performing. You should stay on a soft road lest your cup holder break in the bumps.

You don't want to get into Theology or Eschatology here. But it is kind'of fun related to the cup holder and so, so many other things.

The Higher Power said that I can not talk about Religion, Sex, Kids, Politics, Money, or Work....just trucks. I told the DW that I was sorry and by her grace, go I.

For a SuperDuty, the cup holders do look and work really cheap. I have no faith in them. My '01 came out of the track, but it was easy to fix (youtube) and now I tell everyone that sits in the Passenger side.... Never use the dash cup holder with your 50oz coffee cup...
If mine truly breaks, I would order an after market one and install that.
Sorry that I went down a rabbit trail.

The 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen Rams have the same problem. I've replaced cupholders in both.

It's one of the curiousities of automotive engineering: dash cupholders will always be weak. Tilt steering columns will always be more complicated than engines, etc
