the original dash pads are glue on type pads...the amount of goo used depends on the person applying the goo and installing it way back when I assume....Ive heard of some that didnt survive removal cause of a ton of glue, and some that had hardly any used. The dash underneath is painted, but there would be glue and foam leftovers most likely...the paint under it is sure to be as new and thus shiny and pose a poissible glare if thats an issue with you...just giving you a heads up as mine is shriveled up over the LH side but Im leaving it on cause the glare is irritating .
i bought one of those carpeted dash protectors off ebay for my 66. nice fit . 24 bucks good deal.i dont remmember the co. name ,sorry.just put in dash cover on ebay search.good luck.gary.
Update: I removed the dash pad on my 65. Underneath was some very pretty red paint. Wish the whole truck looked that way. Interior is pretty well stripped. Floor pans were replaced. I think I'm close to just repainting the interior. I'm going to just go with out a dash pad...I like the metal dash. Just hope I don't end up eating it. =|
