I am mounting a set of heads today by myself. The motor is on a stand. I will be using an engine hoist. I plan on using the engine bracket and the metal cross piece under the intake manifold. Does anyone know if this part is strong enough to hold the head?
Is this a bad idea?
It worked ok. Its nice to have the weight on the lift before the final install. Although I dropped a head gasket and bent the corner so I am headed to Autozone for another. Couldn't believe they had a mahle one locally. And don't forget to put the lifters in before putting the head on. lol.
A chain used between the upper outside bolt hole on one end and the upper inside bolt hole on the other lifts the head at nearly the perfect angle (45 degrees) to drop them on the block as it sits on the floor.
I'm not that old and I'm not frail or weak but I use a hoist when I do it because I don't want to mess up a gasket....these things are freaking heavy and using a hoist takes out the human variable.
I appreciate the help. The heads are on. I will know about the accessory bracket holes for the next time. The short block is done. I am going to start pulling the old motor today. I will have the short block for sale locally (Denver) if anyone needs parts.
