FTE Hivemind - what's the thought on bolt pattern wheel adapters for our older trucks? Freeda is wearing bitchin' rims, but they're 16.5" diameter so tires are $400+ each and not readily available. I'd like to move to something more normal (16" or 17" diameter) but I'm having trouble finding OBS rims. I've found bolt pattern adapters online (8x165.1mm to 8x170mm) that would allow me to use more modern rims, not to mention affordable tires. What do we think of this option? Anyone using these things?
Just find wheels that fit properly. Thousands of these trucks have aftermarket wheels, so it can't be that difficult to find a set with the correct bolt pattern.
Goofy modern wheels aren't required to get decent tires. There are a lot of nice 16 inch wheels that have been put on these trucks since they were new.
Wouldn't use those things if they were sitting on the shelf. Actually they wouldn't even be sitting on the shelf, because they'd have been tossed in the garbage can if they ever found their way here.
E-Series single wheels are 16" and are still made new to this day. They fit all the 80-97 F-Series with 8-lug hubs, as well as quite a bit of the older stuff that has 1/2"-20 lugs. My '79 F-250 has 2006 E-350 wheels, they look awesome and are super easy to find tires for.
Ok, ok. I get it. Wheel adapters are no bueno. To clarify, I'm not looking for something that's modern and fashionable. I want to keep the old-school look so would love to find some old-school rims that fit.
Thanks for the tip about the E-series wheels, solanum. I'll check into those and will keep looking.
