How does one know whether their truck is equipped with it? I don't have the original build sheet, as I bought my '20 XLT used. I do have the heated seats option, along with the Premium package.
Is it just a matter of trying it out, by turning the heat to Max when outside temperature is 30ish degrees? Then, see how quickly heat returns from the vents?
Does your truck have dual alternators???
All supplemental heater trucks have dual alternators.
I've had the supplemental heater on my last 2 trucks, current truck is 2017, previous 2011. It needs large alternator as it has three 50 amp elements. So it's the equivalent of a hairdryer. But 30 minutes sitting in my driveway with remote start and truck is nicely warm and window defrosted most of the time.
Definitely sounds like you've got a cooling system issue. You should be at full operating temperature long before 30 minutes into your drive if everything is functioning properly. My FIL's '23 is upwards of 150 degrees in the three mile drive to the main drag from his place, and my CTD is about the same, even with the 21 degree morning we had today.
I would suggest that you've got a coolant thermostat that is stuck open. It happens, even on new vehicles. It should NOT take that long to heat up.
This is an old thread, but it sounds like my truck is normal. Just takes forever to warm these things up.
No, but if his truck doesn't have dual alts, then it doesn't have supplemental heat, if it does then it might.
I will have to disagree on this point. My truck has the supplemental heater but only the single 397amp alternator. Perhaps this is something that changed from 2019 to 2020?

They made a 397 amp single alternator? I thought the 397 amps was dual (240 main and 157 secondary) in the 2020-2022 trucks.

Have you looked? I think you will find that you actually have dual alternators.
Judging by the list of options, the only one that I have is the first one (43C, inverter in cab). So, I have the 240A single alternator. Thanks for the chart, that's very informative!

No, there never was any single 397 amp alternator, has dual alts, just hard to see both of them.

There are ways you can look up the Window Sticker of a truck you have the VIN number for. Dealers use it for trade ins, etc.

Are you going by the window sticker? I think you have dual alternators. My window sticker says "397A alternator" but I have two alternators. I checked the part numbers; the one on the left is 240A, the right one is 157A.
