What is this thing?

I have something draining my batteries and I think this is it. At first, it was pulling anywhere between 170 ma up to 1/2 amp. I started pulling fuses all over the place and couldn’t find anything. I pulled the cover off of this thing, tapped it with a screwdriver handle... nothing. Disconnected power, then hooked it up, started the truck and after about 5 minutes, I cut the truck off. This module was pulling 470 ma. after about 5 to 10 minutes, it dropped to 180 ma. A short while later, it dropped to zero. Anybody have issues with this thing? What is it? Thanks!

BTW, this thing usually has a plastic cover on it. I had it off while troubleshooting.

This is next to the passenger side battery.

Well, I think that is called a high current battery junction box. There could be all kinds of stuff downstream that’s draining my batts. 😩

There are certain circuits that draw power after immediately shutting off the engine, so I wouldn't be surprised if you witnessed some small current draw briefly after shutting off. 470 mA is not a lot of current, and for five minutes that won't affect much at all (provided your batteries are up to snuff).

Speaking of batteries, you have ruled those out by testing them (disconnected, and load-testing them)? If they're older than three years you might want to replace them (especially since cold weather is literally weeks away in Arkansas).

Thanks for the response, Joe. Since this issue first started, the batteries were almost 5 years old. I replaced them about 1 month ago. After shutting off the truck, all lights come on when you open the door. So the amp draw is 11.? amps. After the time delay, they drop to 0.470 amps or 470 ma. After a while, it drops to 170 to 180 ma. Sometimes it stays there. Other times it drops to zero. 170 ma will definitely pull the batts down over 2 weeks, which is what I just experienced the other day. I think the 470 ma draw must be normal, but the 170 to 180 ma draw is the problem. So far, I have not done as someone else mentioned and that is to disconnect both batteries. However, I think I’ll try that method tomorrow.
