I have a 2018 F150 Powerstroke diesel. Up until now I have been having the dealer do oil changes, well the last one was $309 for just an oil change, so the question do you need to use diesel oil or will any 5W30 oil be fine. Up here in Canada I only really see all types of 5W30 from conventional to synthetic. Mileage is 134,000+.
If calls for synthetic oil I'd use the Rotella T6. I use the conventional Rotella T4 in my Bullnose diesel truck. Both are available at Sam's Club here in the States.
So, that three hundred bucks might not be that bad, in Canadian dollars if it's synthetic oil. A jug of good synth 5W40 diesel oil is $65 unless you find a good sale, and you need three of those jugs, so that's $195 out of picket for the oil, plus filter and stuff.
Or conventional 15W40 is about $45 per jug, but for winter conditions in Canada, I think the synthetic is worthwhile.
If you watch the sales, you should be able to get your oil at least 30% off, and you only need 2 and a bit jugs, so costs come down over time. Really comes down to time and inclination I'd say.
