I spent all day yesterday looking over old posts. Lots of good info thank you.I have a 1999 Super Duty f250 4X4 V!0. Impressive starting motor very smooth. I have about 100k on it but unfortunately I did not have time to care for it properly. Thought I was being smart and ran higher weight oil too. Strange story but I had a schizophrenic neighbor one day I found the oil drained out of the truck same time oil lines were pulled from my sons transmission. I found an oil light in the morning but did not see that the day before? Never had a problem like it afterwards oil levels have been good. The truck has a tick when cold goes away once warm. Running 10-30 weight with Lucus oil additive now. I live in a moderate climate near Seattle but take the truck in the mountains where it can be 10 to 0 degrees. I have not changed the plugs bought the truck at 60k plan to do them with a new fuel filter soon. I’d like to get your thoughts on the tick? Ill look for loose ex. manifold bolts and know more about the plug situation when I do that.
In about 2017 Ford came back out with a V10 2 valve for the large 450 or so Econoline. Would this engine be a good sub for my 1999 engine after swapping throttle body etc? Does it also have the PI heads or have these been further modified?
2002-2004 2V PI heads: I understand that these have improved combustion shapes and better intake runners. Do they require different intake or exhaust manifolds from the 1999 type then? If so are thoes bolt on parts?
As far as I can tell the 3V short blocks interchange with the 2 bolts some say there is only an added sensor location on the 3V? Piston dishes changed over the years. The original 1999 model had the higher dome? Did the 2002-2004 retain this also? The 3V engines had lower domes? And the Econolines also had lower domes?
When did they come out with the plastic crossover?
Did the 1999 F250 have a knock sensor? Just curious.
