I am putting my engine bay back together, and I can’t for the life of me figure out where that little 5 inch metal bracket that is angle on each end goes? I’m sure I’ll have other questions as I go along here! Thanks!
There is a nut welded under the fender apron next to the battery location, the bracket goes from there to the outer battery hold down stud. Do you still have the original bridge that goes across the battery?
I had 2 - 81 F100 trucks I was making 1 good one from and I did the same thing.
It helped a lot as I picked the 2 bags of bolts / screws and then picked the best from either.

Yes, I have the handle thing that goes on top. I thought it went to the threaded hole on the fender as I can see the marks for it. Just couldn’t figure how it hooked to something else. So it hooks from the fenderwell to the handle that is held down by the J-hooks? I’m not home to look at it till Wednesday.
This helps me so much..............
Thankx.......
I bought a new handle & bolts & they did not fit...............Now I know WHY... I forgot how the Z looking bracket installed also............It should fit correctly NOW...
Thankx again...
Ok , are u sure that is the original handle
I purchased a new handle with 2 bolts with the hooked ends to inset in to the two squares in the tray it appears........
Also the handle shown here looks like the metal z looking bracket does not fit exactly inside the plastic handle at the end where the bolt comes through it sets skewed looks to me .
My z bar does not fit flush either and looks like it was installed on top of handle which does not look factory to me .
Why are there 2 squares bolts & two holes ?
Maybe for different size batteries , but the z bar fits awkward to me in the handle ........
I think factory handle may be different...........
It is always something...........................
...
I C said the BLIND MAN.......
NOW for the SECRET , SUPER DUPER PRIZE .......There is a small hole in the original Z bar gizmo... ... What is it fur
The way, some of the different bits and pieces fit also depends on the size of the battery.
Especially the height.
Not all batteries are created like they were 50 years ago, and not even all batteries back then were the same.
Add to that the fact that over the years different people may have bent their brackets to fit, and the new ones may not be exact, precise reproductions of the originals, and even Ford might’ve use different ones for different trucks, and you get a whole series of things that might effect how these bolt together.
