My first thought is the fuel pump is making extra noise for some reason. They will sound like a mad bee. When they're noisy like that, there's usually a problem with good fuel flow. Air in the fuel or a flow restriction pre-filter somewhere.
the noise is coming from the engine bay,
the fuel pump is under the driver's seat on the frame rail, it is very quiet, and has a "whine type sound to it", a rotary motor electric fuel pump.
it stays on for almost 2 minutes, so it isn't that.
Vacuum pump is a possibility. I've also gotten a buzzing noise from the glow plug relay caused by a less than acceptable ground connection. I ran a dedicated ground to one of it's mounting bolts and cured that business.

California truck, has an IDM, not a big fat relay.
It's the vacuum pump. Will run when yo switch key on until it pulls vacuum to set point in vacuum reservoir. If it doesn't shut off and keeps running it means you have a vacuum leak.
Unless you are like me. Then it's merely the voices in our heads.
I just ignore them. eventually they get board and go bother someone else. Whatever you do, don't talk to them. That's worse that feeding the pigeons in the park. They go tell their friends and all the sudden it's one of those high school parties that goes out of control. The cops show up, and it turns into a whole thing.
Otherwise, me three on suspecting the vacuum pump for your buzzing noise. Unless you are like me. Then it's merely the voices in our heads.
yeah, that gadget that turns on the Glow Plugs, a silver looking module with fins on top.
Noises in my head?
I have severe Tinnitus, trains travel thru my head 24/7/365.
there is no end to it... I can't fall asleep until I am totally exhausted...
which is why I am posting at 05:00, I have not been asleep since about 10 a.m. yesterday
If you're hearing it coming from the engine compartment try opening the hood, and then standing next to the driver's door. Turn on the key and then proceed without any waste of time to the right side of the engine compartment where the vacuum pump/chamber assembly is stationed and lay your hand on the top of the pump to see if it's the source of the noise in question.
