Today I had the chance to install the intake on the Excursion...I'll get to the F350 when I finish the Excursion up. I was able to get both intakes for very little $/free, but all the parts weren't there...little things like bolts, battery tray, etc. I picked up some battery trays out of a local wrecking yard, which were the passenger side units...I don't mind having the battery hold down on the opposite side between the filter housing and the battery. I do have a couple things which I'm looking for some advice:
1.) The battery tray bolted up to the fender with the 2 bolts, but the bracket towards the engine in the flat part of the tray is not lined up to accept the other 2 bolts. Not necessarily a problem as I can either drill 2 holes through the tray to line up, or leave it be given the weight of the battery.
2.) The 3rd attachment for the filter housing which is next to the battery tray in the area mentioned above doesn't have a place to attach. This leaves the whole unit to not be secured and can see it moving around, maybe even breaking one of the 2 fender mounted attachments. The other thing is the beginning of the snorkel just lays down on the top edge lip of the battery tray which could eventually rub a hole in it.
3.) The fender hole behind the filter housing is bigger than I was expecting and remember in pictures I've seen. It's offset bigger towards the front and can see an issue if I decide to cut a hole in the filter housing and making that a functional fresh air source. Could this be an Excursion thing or is it normal...
LOL thats what I get for trying to look at my phone while watching a 3 year old climb up and down big gravel piles with his toy trucks
Bringing them up right are ya... no problem with that. I now see how the tray basically needs to be rotated 180* on that side bracket which bolts to the fender. So I'll look at the possibility of getting those separated, rotated, and welding back up as I can also see it will allow that 3rd attachment to be possible...maybe also have those 2 flat tray attachments line up. Still wondering about the fender hole though I see it seems to be that way from the pictures I'm pulling up...
In taking a closer look, it appears there are 6 holes on the underside of the side bracket which have welds and/or some type of attachment. Thinking these can be drilled and/or doing some grinding to get the side bracket separated from the flat tray, then mocked up and reattach with welds. This would put that side tab in the right place for the filter housing and hopefully line up the other 2 holes for the flat tray. It might also be possible to push the flat tray closer to the fender to get the bottom of the snorkel off the top edge of the tray...

The picture didn't attach yesterday for some reason...
About the sleeve. IIRC there is a smaller hole back inside of the larger one. Maybe that’s the one we try to “seal” to with the shop vac filter.
Aawlberninf350 has some decent photos starting at this post. I looked last night and only saw 1 photo of mine in the thread (post 207) which isn’t real helpful.
In answer to your third question, all the fender holes are the same between truck and Excursion, and your fender hole doesn't appear any larger than the one on my truck.
It could be that because your fender is white, the large black hole stands out more than, say a truck that is black, where the fender hole doesn't stand out as prominently.
Do you have the original battery tray from the stock filter housing? I got an AIS and didn't have the tray so I re-worked the stock one. If you go to post #20 that is where I start with the necessary cuts. I came out just right.
