Unfortunately we won't know that until I take the heads off but I can always ask if they'll let me do it there. I've done a few other motors that have been locked up, one being bad enough it required a sledge to get pistons out, heads were fine. So I won't rule anything out. This person isn't asking much for them so in any case it's worth getting. At the worst, I have two potential cores for machining and I'll keep looking for heads. My engine runs, it just smokes. I'd rather swap the engine in the truck for a rebuilt one vs rebuild the one I currently have and have a dead truck sitting around.
i know that dilemma there as my truck has been on stands in-op for over a month now waiting for parts, i did get it running though.
I cracked the bellhousing putting the motor in as i didnt have the clutch tool, ebay lost it in shipping.
Sucks but i can weld it back up easily.
Okay time for an update, busy with everything lately. Got the engines. Paid $170. The engine that was taken apart came with heads and intake. C1AE block and C1TE heads. That one is pretty bad everywhere except for the heads. The valves need to be replaced but other than that I'd say they're good. No rockers.
The assembled engine is a C2AE block with ECZ-G heads high ratio rockers. I would say these heads need more work than the others. Could be cleaned up with less work but, some guides have been reamed to oversize and some guides replaced. I would rather just put new guides on everything. One cylinder has some rust but I think it'll hone out, there's not even a ridge on top of any of the cylinder walls. None of the rings were frozen either.
Both engines have been machined 40 on the bore. Cranks 40 on the mains and 30 on the rods but the one from the open engine is probably trash. Called Tim McMaster as his shop is about 10 minutes from me, he said that the better crank maybe be good as long as the radius hasn't been machined out. I'll take it to him later to check it out.
I'd say I got a pretty good deal, the one block will probably just sit in the garage forever. The smaller valved heads will get new valves and put on the engine in the truck. The better heads and block will be cleaned up and rebuilt and that combo will get swapped in.
The assembled engine also has a damper that hasn't spun, but it's a single groove so I'll need to redo fan stuff if this proves to eliminate the shake my engine had.
Also, seals arrived for the transfer case. Input and output were leaking. Got them in, spun it by hand, very crunchy. So that's getting torn down now too.
This truck is becoming a much larger project than anticipated but it'll be worth it when it's all done.
