So im getting to point of registering the truck and was looking at different options, I found this on one site and was wondering if anyone has ever seen it or would it still be available, just don’t want to hang it off the bumper and under the drivers
tai light seems impossible with the bumper brackets I used to get it closer to the body, thanks
Pete
The typical problem with these factory style bumpers is that they are around 5 inches high, and the standard license plate is 6 inches. The license plate will either extend above the bumper, below the bumper or centered in between.
That does look good. The contour of the bumper is similar to those used in the 1970s. The license plate still extends below the bumper, but it looks good.
While the pictured bumper is chrome, I have similarly modified a stainless bumper to add the recess. My bumper was narrowed to the width of the bed which left me enough cut off material to form the license plate recess/mount. An added benefit of this design is that a light can be mounted out of view over the license plate.
Sorry BJ, no pics but I am going to build another soon. That one I built previously caught the eye of the owner of a truck that I was painting so I sold it to him. I am going to make a drawing of the mod... my bumper looked exactly like the one in the photo except it was the width of the bed.
I've got a farm rear bumper aluminum , can't use it as a trailer hitch wraps around the rear fenders to the rear fender rear opening. The license plate is on the center step. And it's kind of a shelf where the license plate is mounted. Also mounted a red light bar it's between the tail gate and farm bumper
also acts as a back up.light. really bright. I hear what your saying about the standard license plate hanging below the bumper. Looks lame. I have that issue on my front bumper.
Here is a quick drawing I worked up showing how I modified a stainless bumper for my 56. I narrowed the bumper to the width of the bed and added a recess for the license plate. The metal on these SS bumpers is thick so care must be taken when welding.
Got the old bumper and started mocking up a center license plate location, I cut 45 degrees in the returns to keep the lower bumper contour, after welding and grinding I’ll get the chrome sandblasted off and paint the satin black like I did with new one
