Question 49 f1 frame question

I have recently noticed that the back end of my frame is off (not level from side to side). If I mount the bed and send the level across the front the bed is fine and within the limits of being level, when I put it across the back it seems to be off approximately 1/2". Before people say shim it, the issue there is I have a tank relocation kit and have a roll pan on the back of the bed, so if I shim it, the bed becomes level but the revel of the tank drastically runs out from side to side.....Are there any suggestions on how to determine if one side is low or the other side is high? Any reference points to take measurements from? The issue seems to begin at the tail end of the frame after the hump for the rear. Maybe split the difference and raise one side, lower the other and call it a day???? Thoughts appreciated.

Mike

Go to the underside and measure the distances from the frame rails to the floor.

Follow that....but, do I raise one lower the other, split the difference? Was trying to find out if there is a way to determine what side is out......

You want to see how the frame aligns with the weight on the tires, this will determine where the misalignment lies. If there is a tweak in the frame then that will need to be dealt with differently than shimming the bed. It may be worth the $$$ to take it in to an alignment/frame shop for evaluation.

My buddy owns a body shop he said we can put it on the frame machine and adjust......I was just trying to determine a plan of attack, you can see one side of the frame is slightly lower than the other, just not sure which side to adjust. Thanks for the responses!

You might want to put the tank in first and see how it looks at the roll pan. I think that will tell you more than our guesses are worth.
I dont think the frame on an F1 is flat enough for any reference points.

Having a frame shop property straighten it is probably your best bet. It is mild steel and they can do wonders, especially with modern equipment.

The body shop will have the tools and measuring equipment to be able to tell what's high and what's low, and be able to make an informed decision to do a proper repair. If you have a buddy with a body shop willing to help, take him up on it. It'll be the best case of beer you ever bought.
