I do plan on adding a spray in bedliner and a Retrax cover on the bed. I had the tinted ventshades on my '97 SuperCab. I haven't decided on adding them to the '04 yet. I'm not a fan of the bug shields on the front end. I think they take away from the original clean lines of the truck. Putting one on for rock chip protection would be a mott point as well.
Your truck would look good with a pinstripe like mine down the side. I noticed the brake dust on your front wheels. I'm putting up with it as well. I never had a serious problem with brake dust on the '97 truck. I do clean mine often enough to ensure it will not be a problem.
The bug shield is to keep the bug crap from eating the paint on the front lip. It works good for that. I would have liked a pin stripe but it didn't come with one. I have read that ceramic brake pads are the way to go when replacing the stock pads. I'll try them when the originals wear out.
I love the seats, and I ain't no little guy. I had my shoulder replaced 18 months ago and this is the only truck I could comfortable in. My son who is 6-4 is talking about getting an 04 just for the seat. I also drive a Lexus LX 470 and a Jaguar XK8. I could not drive the Lexus and Jag more than 200 miles without pain.
Happy New Year everybody......and I hope you and your families had a VERY MERRY Christmas!!
I have seen MANY posts in this site trashing the seats in the new '04 F-150....and damn few praising them
First of all I am 54 years old, 6'5" tall, and weigh about 270 pounds.....and don't have any muscular or skeletal problems of any kind. I ordered my '04 F-150 Lariat with the leather captains chairs and the center console and heated seats.
I live in Charlotte, NC and have been driving to York, PA (almost 500 miles each way) for the past 32 years. I just did this trip again for Christmas and stopped only once for lunch.....and I can HONESTLY say that FOR ME, these seats are ABSOLUTELY THE MOST COMFORTABLE AND SUPPORTIVE seats of ANY vehicle I have ever owned....which includes Audis, Acuras, BMWs, and most recently a 1998 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer.
I realize that seat comfort and fit are are a very individual, and personal thing.....but just wanted to post some positive comments about these GREAT seats
And for all you MPG guys......I got 19.8 "ACTUAL" MPG on my last trip to York.....running at 70 to 80 MPH on I-77, I-81, PA Turnpike, and I-83
I really like the new seats in Lariat. You don't down into them like I did in my 2000 Lariat. In my 2000, I would have to adjust the mirrors after 20 minutes of driving.
The only thing the interior could really use is a dead pedal on the adjustable pedal assy.
I cannot beleive how well this truck handles. I'm in heaven.

To be honest I'm kinda glad there weren't 300,000 people hijacking the thread and posting how great they are because that would make me feel that much worse. I've never driven a car that put my lower body to sleep, at least in such a short time. With a power seat I should be able to get at least somewhat comfortable, but it only gets worse.
I'm sure most people find the seats comfortable. At least they are made better than they used to be.
Originally posted by aldridgec Well, I went to drive the new F150. I REALLY REALLY LIKE IT! They fixed most all the annoyances with my current truck. I love the power rear supercab windows.
However, I have a serious problem I need help with.
The seats. This was a situation in my current truck, but one I could live with. The seats could be more comfortable.
But in the 2004, I can't live with it. On my 25 minute test drive I couldn't get comfortable. By the end of the drive my back hurt badly and my leg was almost numb. It had a power seat. I needed to sit lower, but still have leg support. If I raised the front of the seat, I sat too high and my arms wouldn't rest on the arm rests. If it put the seat all the way down, my arms were more comfortable, but it really strained my legs. Either way it strained my back.
Again, I feel like i am not sitting down in the seat. And the seat bottom feels too short, no leg support. It appears there are quite a few restraint system items built into the seat so aftermarket seats probably wouldn't be an option. I thought maybe an upholstery shop could help but wouldn't know for sure unless I bought and tried. Its the only thing keeping me from buying one, I can't have a truck that puts my leg to sleep.

I'm having the same problem & hate my seats. I'm 6'-0" 190 lbs and had my truck for 4 months and 4600 miles. I picked up my truck after 7 weeks on order, test drove it and my leg was numb. I almost walked away from the sale but after driving a Dodge for 8 years maybe it was just me. On the way home I wished that I never got the truck. The seat is flat - 0 degrees with no thigh support. My Dodge seats were higher and tilted back. I'm calling & writing Ford every week complaining about the stupid seat design and the head rest is in the way.
I had my seat adjusted just right, very comfy, then my wife drove it and screwed it all up. She has a bad back and likes her seat completly different. I was driving and trying to adjust at the same time and just couldn't get it right. I don't have the memory option but wish I did. btw I'm 6'1'' 190 lbs.
My seats are fine. I also looked long and hard for the 40/20/40 split. They are a little firm but I can sit fine in the truck for long trips.
Funny thing is I thought the old Lariat captains chairs were too soft. I always prefer more firm seating and bedding. Must be those days as an Army Ranger
