I buy trucks because I'm big. I want a seat that is equally as big. With the power adjustment it should have enough adjustment to fit most people. I just don't think it was very well thought out. For it to bother me that bad after 25 minutes is pretty bad. Like its been mentioned the chevy seats are far more comfortable, and seem to fit a wide range of body sizes. And as far as I can tell the seats are too integrated into the restraint system to be easily replaced.
FWIW, the older truck seats didn't please me either. I think its like STXDriver said, they have no structure, its just a big foam sponge on top of a frame.
Will: No need to argue about it. My opinion, my data-point that
I shared, is worth exactly the same as yours.
As an engineer myself I'm sure that the Ford engineers made
the seats to fit their target purchaser - fully realizing that the
fringe, on either end, would not be as comfortable. What
else could they do?
All we can do on this internet board is offer up our opinions,
for those considering a purchase, to take heed or dismiss as
they wish.
BTW - my padding comes with me always, it is the price I pay
for overeating...
Good to have the info! I thought the old seats were too soft and now they made them firmer. I'm just upset because I don' t have much choice. I just can't buy the truck because of the stupid seats.
lol, sorry detour, i didn't catch on to "carrying the extra padding all the time" but "having" extra padding and feeling comfortable is still "needing" extra padding to make it comfortable to a lot others. padding is padding and it needs to be there in some form, which these ford seats don't have. Too bad aldridgec can't enjoy all the other great qualities of this truck.
Just read the latest Four Wheeler Magazine shoot out as stated above and they said that the seats were extremely comfortable, the cabin was very quiet, and the interior was very well executed and therefore won 1st place for the interior portion of the shootout.

And this is supposed to make my leg feel better why? I agree its a very nice interior, but I'm just appaled at how badly it affected me in my short test drive. I don't think they had any 6'6" guys riding in that test. I can't speak for the shorter guys but there are better more supportive and adaptive seats out there.
(aldridgec) sorry about your misfortune. Unfortunately Ford either was not testing the seats for the 90th+ percentile or else maybe they didn't care. At any rate no pun was intended against anybody. I just wanted to put some more info. out for others to read.
Maybe you guys need to lay off the fried chicken and brewskis :-) so that you can downsize into the little Ford seats.
Seriously, my present car will cause the same kind of pain if the seats aren't adjusted just right. I find that if the seat is too high, my leg gets irritated after about 25 minutes. I dropped the seat to the lowest setting, and angled up the front edge just a bit. That seemed to help a lot.
I'm starting to conclude that a six way power seat with memory is a must have option.
I just bought my truck yesterday and drove over six hours to get it home (break in speeds). I am 6' 3" and thought they were nice. Of course I am use to truck seats.
Six way power seats would be fine in this truck if they adjusted better. I have now tried all the seats ford offers in their vehicles, and the F150 is the only one I cannot get to work. The explorer comes in a close second.
Some of their seats have great up and down adjustability. I can tilt the front up enough to give me the leg support I need. The f150 barely seems to go above horizontal, but will angle down quite far (don't see why it needs to really). Same with the explorer. If they allowed the seats to angle up more, like the previous f150 we wouldn't be having this conversation. What a stupid oversight.
Thanks adam for the nod. In all reality I am going to get a truck to the upholstery shop and see what they can do. I added some leg support to my current truck and it helped out alot (but it doesn't have power seats) So I am hoping the same can be done in the new truck.
Its interesting that my boss has a Chevy (stop me if I've mentioned this before) and he complains the seats are too narrow and supportive. But he is 6'8" and 340lbs so its likely. Hey one size can't fit all. I just wish the seats weren't so proprietary.
I've had my new 2004 F-150 Lariat for a little over a week now. I like the seats. They are very comfortable to me. Tan leather Captains Chairs. The carpet is a bit light but I put in a set of Catch-All floor mats. That should help keep it clean.
