I have the leather captains chairs with the heated/memory/passenger side power option and I think they are pretty good seats. They aren't a Lazy Boy by any means, but adequate. I would like to see a power recline that returns with the memory as my wife seems to like to change my postion when she drives it, but that's the only complaint I have.
i am 6'1" and a dead sexy 230 lbs and am very comfortable in the truck...it took me about 2 months to find the correct seat position, now when the wife drives the truck (as little as possible) she only moves it forward and aft and adjusts the pedals.
I didn't take time to read all the posts, but if it hasn't been mentioned I recommend going to drive one of the Dodge Rams. My truck is in the shop for an annoying rattle under the steering wheel, and my dealership also sells Dodge, so guess what I'm getting to drive while my f150 is being fixed. Yes the Dodge seats feel more "cushy" and indeed have more foam, but that's it. No support and VERY uncomfortable due to the support bars in the seat portion. I'm 6'2" 200lbs and I bottom out in the Dodge seats and can feel both sides of the support bars on my bottom side. Also upon getting in the truck and setting across the bolesters I can feel the same bars, I suppose it's the actual frame of the seat I feel. Whatever it is, it's uncomfortable and I hope my truck is fixed soon.
No complaints about my seats (lariat model). In fact, I think the driver's seat is the most comfortable seat I've been in for quite awhile. I like that it's a little firm, but not TOO firm. It's just right for me...super comfy. For reference, I'm 5'8" and about 190 lbs. I think I once heard that most car makers center their vehicles around a 5'8" person since that's the average height of most US drivers (assuming male)...I think that's what I heard. Seems to make sense because every car I get in, there seems to be a pretty comfy position for me. Maybe I don't like this seat or that seat, but the driving position seems pretty good for me in any car/truck. In my truck, the controls (heat and so on) are at a perfect arm's reach, without bending to reach anything. Most of my controls are on the steering wheel (temp, fan, volume, memory/cd next track, cruise control), but I like to reach over if my wheel is turned going around a bend. I'm not sure you'll find many cars designed around very tall or very short people. It wouldn't be in the manufacturer's best interest to target a minority customer base...they'd obviously like to serve as many customers as possible with the 'average height' range of drivers.
I have resigned myself to the fact that not one is going to design a seat with the 6'1'' 300+ lb man in mind. I have found that the most comfortable seats for me are bench seats as I have abnormally wide shoulders (yes wide even for a fat ******* like me). I only test drove the F-150 twice for no more than 10 minutes each, I hope that these seats don't kill me. they can't be as bad as those in the Tundra, toyota must build with midgets in mind.
I just don't think the japanese engineer things with the average AMERICAN in mind. I mean come on, the average height for a japanese dude must be like 5'4 or sum *****. So engineering for "midgets", how you put it (little people is more P.C.), is not that far off the mark.
I rode in my brother's police truck ('04 explorer) and the seat was very uncomfortable(numb legs after about half hour) just as you guys are saying about the 150, maybe just a bad year for the ford seats?
