89-91 Econoline E4OD OD switch questions

I'm considering buying an 89 E350 with E4OD but the OD off switch is currently missing, probably broke/failed so they just took it off and threw it away. It appears you can just get by with a momentary switch, but I saw that there is also a resister between the LED and the transmission. Does the resister matter much? Showing an F-series switch below since i can't find any pics of the back side of an E-series one, and the E-series schematic. It's on a diesel van but I'm guessing that portion of wiring will be the same.

From the schematic, it appears that the switch is not momentary but maintained. I can't tell from the schematic if switch ON = OD OFF or the opposite but it looks like the switch needs to remain in each position.

The resistor is simply a current limiting resistor for the LED. It should match the LED you will be using. If you connect an LED there without the resistor the LED will probably draw excess current and burn out the LED.

The switch is definitely normally open, momentary contact. I do not know about the resistor.
