I’ve been doing some testing, drove the 40 minute drive again. It was 195-205. And then for local 10-15 minute drives the temp is 180-185. Sometimes 192. The most recent test i did was 5 minutes side streets, 10 minutes freeway. So rpm’s were 1100-1500 on side streets once I reached speed and on fwy it was 2200. I feel like that’s enough info to tell if something’s wrong. I have been testing it on the coolant hose right where it connects to the water outlet. If I read it in the middle of the hose it reads 160-170. It’s a harbor freight infrared tool. It matched what my auto shops Matco ones said. So it’s accurate.
According to this info, is anyone able to judge if mines stuck open? Sorry to ask again. I was gonna run it this weekend with the radiator cap off and see if I can see a flow before 195, but just wanted to hear other opinions on this so I can make the right call if I need to replace the thermostat.
None of your information can prove the thermostat is stuck or not. All of it can be explained away with theories.
The only way to know is to take it out and check it. I have never tested a thermostat. They are too cheap and if the thermostat is old, why bother testing. I would just swap it out. With a good name brand thermostat.
The fitment info says that the oring works in 1960's Ford's. If you bought the neck at a parts place like I have seen I don't think it would be my first choice. Looks like chrome but it's not. If you can afford to get a name brand housing, it might be in your best interest.
I got it at a parts stores it’s a Mr gasket brand I think. I did remember everyone saying no chrome. But I figure if I’m changing the coolant every 2yrs it will be fine. There is a Edelbrock one it’s black and it still has the o ring. I don’t want to go back to paper gasket, as I had a nightmare getting those to seal so I just went to o ring.
