Got a new ‘23 F-150, have had it a few weeks and keep coming across little things that bug me. Latest is I happen to notice the bedrails got bent from what appears to be the forcing of the drop in liner into the bed, where the liner has a “rib” that protrudes out. I’m not sure if this was installed at the factory or by the dealer (I added it as an option when I built my truck), but either way, is this normal? It seems as if the liner wouldn’t just plop in and someone had to force the sides of the liner under the bed rails and it bent the metal part of the actual inner bedrail away from the plastic bedrail cap, as you can see in the photos. Anyone else with the factory drop in liner have these bends above the rib by the wheel wells?
Both sides bent like this, look at difference between black bedrail cover (straight) and actual bedrail seam white painted part of bed(bent inward from forcing of bed liner into bed)
I’m referring to the permanent damage to my truck, ie the bending of my bedrails to force this liner in. I built the truck and im not sure if it came from the factory with it installed, or if it ships seperate from the truck and the dealer puts it in. I actually need to find out about that to determine how I ultimately need to approach this…
To install and remove the liner, pull the center of the bottom up. When it bows up, the side will slip in or out. In another lifetime I worked for a Duraliner distributor.
Yes thanks…that’s definitely how I’d approach removal or install, but unfortunately the damage was done by either the factory or the dealer, whoever put this liner in…if I could turn back time and do it myself, I would. I have no faith in ppl to give a s**t, and this is a perfect example … hence why I tend to work on everything myself, whether it be my cars or anything else for that matter. Like if the liner was tight going in, take a step back and figure out why, don’t just force it and damage a $60,000 machine…

The liner itself is fine and not an issue
If you ordered the truck with a drop in liner and the liner was installed when you picked it up then any issues should be taken up with the dealer. Have you looked at trucks without a drop in liner to ensure these areas are supposed to be straight? I’m not near one of mine to check and haven’t looked up under the top rail to see this area. I would expect to see damage to the top rail too if the bed liner drug and pushed hard enough to bend the bed metal.
Yeh, I’ve looked at a bunch of ‘23 trucks and it’s supposed to be straight. I did a pretty thorough inspection upon delivery, but who the heck lays down on their back to check the underside of their bed rails!? I only had noticed this because I was down low in the bed tying something off
Talk to your salesperson about this damage you didn’t notice on delivery. If it hasn’t been a terribly long time since you picked up the truck there’s a good chance they can get it straightened out.
