Charlie, that seems interesting. But I won't use it. I will probably buy good used or new stainless steel hubcaps and have the guy powder coat them. He would have charged me $20-25 per cap.

52, I am assuming that Ford went with argent painted steel hubcaps in 1952 because of the Korean Conflict which started June of 1952. Also assuming that Ford used up all the stainless steel hubcaps in each assembly plant before converting to the painted steel hubcaps.

The Korean Conflict Armistice or cease fire was signed in July of 1953. There never was a peace treaty signed to end the war. So 53 models got steel caps, the 54's were probably already in production and couldn't change over to SS caps. And Ford perhaps liked saving a few pennies per hubcap and kept the steel hubcaps in 55 and 56 and beyond.

That's a lot of assuming here and you know what happens when you assume, but that's how I see it.

Vintage Truck photo shoot is over. Editor Brad Bowling took pictures at the Piper airport in Lock Haven then went on the Island Route to the Red Barn. The pictures and story should be in the January/February issue.

Here some pics he just texted me.

that’s ok we’re all left to assume as I’m sure the information is lost. They’re good assumptions. But I only doubt they would have put leftover blue lettered hubcaps on a red accented truck. If they did do that shame on them! In the 52 brochures it clear as a bell shows SS hubcaps with red lettering. That alone is enough for me. But I also think the style changes and overall look and marketing of the trucks came into its own in 1953 so I think a more basic design and cap was fitting for those trucks. And true that’s a lot of ss to save money on. By the way photos look awesome! Brad knows what he’s doing photographing a green truck in front of a red barn! Classic!

Abe here is a picture of my caps. Me and the wife used red vinyl tape and exacto craft knives. Going on 15 years now.

15 years, Donald, that's great. And you cut them out. That's even better.

Why don't you drive Ole Blue up to Truckstock?

Thanks. So do I. It might be cover material. He took at least 50 to 100 photos, both with his high powered camera and his cell. He probably has better ones. And of course it's the right rear hubcap that has the dings and the one o touched with my plastic glove when the clear was wet.

He liked the famous bald spot on the Bald Eagle mountains in the background.
