Rear diff, 11.6, appears full. Not easy to check as fill hole is completely covered by rear diff, with very minimal clearance.
TC, is about 1/4-3/8" low. 23 Owners Manual claims this for TC, that correct?
Can't check trans.
Oil is full
Have not checked front diff yet.
So this is why it's "not easy to check" on the 11.6 fluid level. The entire port is covered by the rear differential.
There is a tiny bit of space between inside of diff casing and differential itself. Just enough to bend a wire @ 90 degrees
and stick it down in there as a "dipstick". so to speak.
Certainly not doing the "pinky oil check" on this diff. No way you are getting any kind of tube in there
(or even the business end of a gear oil, "squeeze bottle") to refill. I might just buy a cover with a fill plug at least.
Maybe SD axles (Sterlings anyway) have been like this for a while, but older dana's, 9", Ford 7.5/8.8's and even
Unimog 404/406 axles are not.
Checked my 2023 today. Rear Sterling 11.6 was a few ounces low. Transfer case was several ounces low, very poor on Ford's part. Front D60 was actually over-filled from factory, gear oil came running out pretty quickly when the fill plug was pulled. Now to come up with a way to check the 10R140 transmission at some point. Based off of Ford's track record on nothing else being correct, I wouldn't assume the 10R140 is correct from the factory either. Oh, and my 2023 was missing a hose strap for the lower front radiator hose from the factory also....still waiting on that part to come in.
I'm pretty sure I've read on here that some of the diffs don't actually reach the fill hole when the specified fluid amount is used. I don't recall what diff that was true for.
