i think that's the end that bolts to the cross member and you're missing the piece that uses u-bolts to attach to the drag link? i have no idea if the few i've seen are OEM or not though
Thanks guys. Looks like someone has taken the braket on the crossmember and made it work for the draglink. Did all 4x4's come with a steering stablizer from the factory?
I don't recall if mine had it when it had the stock steering, but you bracket is right where the adjustment for the passenger side tie rod is. I have the bracket that fit my later style drag link, but I could have bought that in a retrofit kit or it might have come in the upgrade kit ... I got the pitman arm, drag link, tie rod, sleeve to adjust toe, and other tie rod end all in a kit from a 4x4 Offroad place in Pheonix, AZ via mail order / phone call. The stabilizer and brackets could have been in the kit too. I will say the upgrade is in large part why I've kept the truck so long, totally changed roadholding in these mountains.
Mine is a 78 model, so it has the later style steering. I'll see what I can find online
I see threads where there ain't none on my drag link ... nor the replacement after it wore loose at the ball joint? Oddly though, it does have a ball joint that bolts into the hole on the drag link, that's correct. Is your tie rod all straight from side to side? Like this?
So from what I see the original drag link is not adjustable and has a place to mount the bracket. Someone has put an adjustable drag link on and had to rig up the original bracket. Does the adjustable drag link do any good for me?
They maybe fabricated or adapted it to center the steering wheel. First time I've seen an adjustable one on that set up ... looks like it has an adjustment sleeve on both ends too ... and likely why I first thought you had a '77 or older as I didn't notice the direction of the ball joint at first.? Is the truck lifted? That larger diameter section there inboard of the radius arms looks strange to me too. Factory only has the one sleeve and it's on the long tie rod to adjust toe in. Steering wheel center was done by clocking the steering wheel inside the cab. The drag link normally only went on one way due to a wide tooth, and then a fixed length drag link connected to the far right side end of the longer tie rod end and the only adjustment sleeve was on the left most end with a short tie rod. Yeah, more I look ... the more I think someone really did fabricate or adapt that drag link from something else.
It's not been lifted. I assume it was the original axle too. The guy I bought it off of, his dad bought it new and drove around for his excavation business. He wouldn't have been changing axles out and such unless there had been problems, but that could have been. I've got the tag off the axle. Haven't looked at it though.
Sounds like I might need to just get a new draglink and replace all that mess then.
