Hello everyone! I have a 300 that is skipping. I pulled plug wires one at a time and it's cylinder#2 that's dead. Plug fires, so I know it's good. I took valve cover off and I see the intake pushrod for#2 cylinder is out from under the rocker arm. I pulled it out and saw it was slightly bent so I got a new one and put it in.... Crank her over and it fired up, ran like ***t, and did the same thing to the new push rod..... Cylinder#4 also has a slightly bent intake push rod but it stays under the rocker arm...... Reckon I have a bad camshaft? Any info is appreciated....
You probably have a stuck valve. There's nothing that can really go wrong with the cam to result in too much lift to the point of binding and bending pushrods.
Is this problem with a stock camshaft?
What year engine?
Yes, as far as I can tell everything is stock. The numbers on the block say it's a 1992 truck engine. There is no valve lash adjustment...... This engine is actually in an old Clark forklift. I'm assuming that someone put a remanufactured long block in it some time ago. It can't have seen much use; everything is so clean except for cylinder 2. It's obvious that it hasn't been firing for a minute because there's oily residue all in there and in the combustion chamber
the scratch across the valve was me pulling the head to me so I could lift it out
The cylinder head is earlier than 1985.
I'm assuming it has stud mount rocker arms?
You don't have to adjust for valve lash... You just bolt them down.... The 2 rocker arms for each cylinder both sit in the same little metal "tray"....... Whatever style that is called

Then that would be either a 1985 or a 1986 head with pedestal mount rocker arms.
Can you push all of the valves a little ways down by hand?
