Ca. Oil Shock
I took our 2019 F350 Diesel in for its annual oil change. An change in fuel filter also happened. The cost came to over $600 with almost $300 being the fuel filter change. I have never paid this much before. Was this fair?
Regards and Thanks

Ca.? As in Canada or California???
Fair???
Sure, it's fair if you agreed to it.
Did you not ask beforehand???
Ford has the MSRP of the oil filter to almost $42, and the fuel filter set to $132. I don't know what they are charging for 13q of oil, but I'm sure it's not cheap. Factor in miscellaneous fees and dealership labor rates in some cases, $185/hr, and it can add up. Fair, not in my opinion, and why I do it myself.
Might be able to find a dealership that has lower labor rates, and/or oil change specials.
Not surprised, I’m here in CA also, ugh. My son recently brought his Lexus into the dealer to clear an eBrake code since you need the Toyota software to do it. It cost $240 for the non refundable “check out” to see if the code can be cleared. The “check out” yielded the car needed a $4500 brake job, even though we just completed it, and $600 for spark plugs, 80K miles on the car. He sent me the quote I damn near thought he was messing with me. He and I talked I explained this is BS and that we and the dealer agreed that we would pay the $240 for the code clearing nothing else. He went in and argued with them and they finally agreed to clear the code, at a $240 price tag. The cars brakes have worked flawlessly and no more code issues. For the $4500 brakes job they quoted for every part of the brake system had to be replaced…pads, rotors, calipers…holy crap. The rotors were flawless and to change for the calipers made absolutely no sense. Never figured out the spark plugs either? I pulled two to look at em and again I saw no wear. They are just ripping people off…then again that’s CA!!

$300 for the dealer to change the fuel filters is about normal around here. My dealer and a local independent quoted the same thing. I let the dealer do the first one, then I've done them after that. $300 for an oil change is way too much.
