75,000 Mile Summary

Not much of a big deal but it's cool to read threads like this, so I'll put my stuff down for ya:

2011 F250 6.7 Diesel
Service History
Odometer
11 Pre-Delivery Inspection
5033 Oil/Filter Change
7553 Reprogram PCM/TCM 10B17B
11204 Oil/Filter Change, Fuel Filter Change
24198 Oil/Filter Change, Reprogram PCM/TCM
33313 Oil/Filter Change
41166 Oil/Filter Change
50045 Oil/Filter Change, Fuel Filter Change
59056 Oil/Filter Change, Alignment Check, New Tires, New Shocks
66212 Oil/Filter Change
69525 Cooling System Pressure Test, Replace Radiator
72249 Replace Hood Switch
74768 Oil/Filter Change

Oil changes amount to about $820.
Fuel Filters about $200
Everything else done by dealer was no charge.
Tires and shocks I did elsewhere, Probably around $1400 for tires, I think the Bilstein shocks were $200 for all 4.

If I assume an average cost of $4.80 per gallon of DEF ($12 for 2.5 gallon jug), and 1 gallon gives me 1000 miles, that's $360 to go 75,000 miles.

So, ball park figures are $2980 total cost of maintenance. That's 4 cents per mile if I did the math right. LOVE IT!!!!!!!

As you can see, the truck tells me to get oil changes around 7,000 to 9,000 miles. I like this a lot!

So, Whaddya think? I think it's awesome. I would bet that 4 cents per mile would be very low compared to previous engines.

I am very bad about fuel filters. I should do it more often. I went almost 40,000 miles and then now I am up to 25,000 on the current ones. Whoops.

I should add that this is what it costs to do maintenance at the dealer. I am not inclined to do 10 oil changes in the 16 months I have had the truck.

I think that the true costs are hard to compare without factoring in the costs of fuel. Most of us are seeing ~20% increase in fuel efficiency compared with other engines. So even though we may pay some more for DEF, I'm willing to bet that the overall cost of operation is quite a bit less!

Great data. Man, you are logging the miles! This truck is so easy to maintain. The oil changes and the fuel filters are so fast it's hard to justify the time at the dealer. I can change my oil in 15 minutes and fuel filters in 10. It's so much faster considering door-to-door time and that wonderful experience of sitting in a service lounge watching reruns of Judge Judy. On top of that, I trust myself more than the dealer to get it right. 13 quarts is 13 quarts and no grease marks on the steering wheel. I'm at 19,000 on the ODO.

Maybe I missed it, but why did you change your radiator?

Same reason I had to have several of them replaced on my '08 6.4. The aluminum core is capped at the ends with plastic, on the driver side, bottom corner, coolant started dripping. My theory is that the crimping of the aluminum to the plastic fatigues and allows coolant to seep out. I believe it is a product of temperature change and expansion. When the core cools it must return to its original state differently than the plastic. It only dripped overnight and I think it was linked to the core returning to ambient temperature. Also, I would bet that the union between the core and the ends becomes fatigued over time. Total failure or blowing apart under pressure is something that has not been reported with this engine or the 6.4. Just a weakening.

And, I did not allow for fuel cost because I don't keep accurate records of how much I burn. I am not as diligent with record keeping as a lot of y'all are. All I can estimate is that I am running a good 2 mile per gallon improvement versus the 6.4 I had. With a 1100 mile/week average, that makes a big difference on fuel cost. (no difference than a 50 mile/week average, just bigger numbers)

And Mr. Epic, I know. It could be much lower cost if I did my own. I just don't want to do it so often, I'm not a lazy guy, I'm good at my job and so forth. Just not my cup of tea. I do enjoy rotating my tires monthly though, that's weird.
