The fuel filter will last longer than an oil change interval. Personally, I don't use/abuse my truck much, so I change the oil and oil fliter every 5000 miles. I change the fuel filter every OTHER time I do my oil.........

Matter of preference. If you can afford it, go for it. Same for mileage between oil changes. If you can change oil and filter every 2500 miles, go for it, too. HOWEVER, I don't think either is necessary. I go closer to 5000 miles between oil changes, and I am not in the least bit concerned that I am going too long. I will change my fuel filter every 15000 miles. Naturally, circumstances could change that, such as if my oil were dirtier than normal, or I picked up a bad batch of diesel, and prematurely clogged up my fuel filter.

I agree with the change intervals. Usually change with Racor fuel filter at 10K. One thing is make sure the top bevel gasket is seated properly. I changed my filter yesterday. Took about 500 yards down the road before that beautiful smell of diesel overcame me. Looked behind me and realized I was leaving a trail of oil. Drove back home only to leave a big pool in my drive. It took three tries to get the ring seated properly, only after spraying diesel all over the engine and me. Never had this problem before. Now my neighbors get to enjoy the lovely aroma a for couple of days. Pray for a good rain in southern Colorado!

My rule of thumb is every other oil change. The book says every 15000 miles, which is about every third oil change.

Yea I change mine with Racor so I can afford to change them every 10,000 miles - figure it's good insurance.

I usually change mine at 10K regardless of how often I change my oil. Right now I am doing a lot of towing so I'm changing my oil at 3K. It's never a bad idea to change the fuel filter early, but 5K might be excessive IMO.

I change my Fuel Filter element on my PSD every 5,000 miles because it gets filthy black...
