Took a direct hit from Adalia! She was strong! We are living generator life for the next few weeks. Storm surge devastated all the coastal towns we go to. Ruined our power grid. The good news is our 7.3 made it through. 😀
Hope everyone is safe, and glad the truck made it through the storm unscathed. Been through many hurricanes myself down here in South Florida and it's definitely no picnic. But hey at least you get to do a lot of grilling out. Hopefully it doesn't take 2 weeks to get your power back. Were you able to back feed the generator into the house?
On edit: that is one mean looking wall cloud
our local Power Utility companies sent crews down, and were parked in Dothan waiting for the storm to pass.
I would bet they are all now thoroughly involved in restoring the grid.
that 15KVW Genset ought to be able to run your HVAC compressor.
look into getting a Soft Start for the HVAC, well worth it.
I installed a complete Transfer Panel outside, next to my Power Meter,
all I do now, is plug in the cord, fire up the Genset, let it warm up 5 minutes,
and throw the Transfer Switch to the Down position.

Everyone is good thank goodness. The trees are a different story. We will be months cleaning them up w/ equipment. Not many power lines still up. Concentrating on get everyone emergency power for now. Yes, we back feed them all, most don’t have a generator wire set up. I think that will change now. Been over 125 years since this has happened here in the big bend area. Nice to see everyone helping their neighbors out. Brings the community closer together. With all the wood we are cooking deer meat 24/7 for everyone, taking plenty of protein around for our older neighbors. Most of them still can their own vegetables, so they are covered their. Funny, even the vegetarians are deer lovers. They told us we still have canine teeth. 😂

Yes, they are all here. They spent yesterday assessing the situation and coming up with a strategy. Most of the countries from the coast through her path lost power in the high 90 percent range. Some lost 100 percent. Transfer switches are nice! Looks like a very nice set up!
Grateful to see you guys made it through the storm safely. Nice to know your neighbors are banding together to ensure everyone is OK and continues to be safe. Often times the aftermath of storms like that are more dangerous than the storm itself.

Always nice to see the community coming together to help everyone out. The good thing is the state is much more prepared for hurricanes now days then they were 20 years ago. They have definitely learnef from their mistakes over the years. Almost 20 years ago we took a direct hit from Francis and then another direct hit from Jean about a week after Francis hit. There were no supplies, no fuel and no power for weeks. I do hazardous tree removal for a living and we were busier than ever but hardly had any fuel to work, Even though we stocked up before the storm. It was a real **** show . I've noticed the past couple hurricanes power seems to be restored faster and fuel / supplies are a plenty so that's a good thing. Not trying to get all political but Desantis seems to get stuff done! Hopefully that's the case for you guys up in the big bend. Best of luck to all of you up there

The governor has done an EXCELLENT job with this one. Got to give credit to the forecasters as well. They were spot on, which gave people a couple of days to prepare and/or evacuate. System worked, much like a 7.3.
Glad everyone is safe! I didn't know we had so many fellow forum members so close to me. I'm right along the Gulf Coast in LA. (lower Alabama) if there's anything I can do give me a shout!
Some people were without power for a month when Sally hit. Everything was running on generators and, roads were blocked everywhere with trees. Lots of houses got messed up.
Glad you, your family, and your truck made it out safe!

Thank you very much! Been in Florida my whole life, never been a direct target. This is the transformer pole to our house on the Suwannee. Unbelievable tree carnage. We did a complete maintenance on the 7.3 today, it’s fixing to pull some weight. Thanks to FTE, and Mark’s transmission flush procedure, it’s ready to go. Rural life is great, most of the time. 😂
a few years back, during a severe storm, our transformer pole took a direct hit from Lightning and caught the top of the pole on fire.
I called it in, took 11 hours to replace it, as we are also rural and the trucks don't carry transformers on them, they had to send a truck to the main Warehouse 45 minutes away to get one.
the hit to my pole, was transferred along the power lines to the main transformer out on the highway, blew that one up also....
those guys are good at what they do, working in all types of weather.
in this case rain at freezing temps, why the Lightning? who knows?

A few years ago, when I still lived in Seattle, I heard some thunder during a snowfall. Only time in my life I ever heard that and I thought it very strange at the time.
