When searching, I saw owners/builders mention relocating their coil or coil packs.
I keep thinking about the location of the coil right in front of the distributor, near the carb and so close to the valve cover. I am tempted to move it to the firewall, near the distributor.
Has anyone else considered or done it? I would still mount it horizontal, just get it off the hot intake. I don't think the wire length would be a problem.
Anyone?
You want all wire lengths to be as short as possible, As long as you can place it somewhere relatively close on the firewall, it will be ok.
At present, I have a modern E core coil (electronic ignition) mounted to an aluminum bracket, which is mounted to the intake, with teflon bushings (no metal to metal contact) to help insulate it from the intake heat, It's been like that for probably 14 years now, daily driven.
If you use a good quality coil, it probably does not really matter.
