Question Throttle body position sensor?

Hi there I have a 2001 Ford f250 7.3l it's a diesel I'm new to anything diesel .. its giving me problems when I'm driving it the gas pedal accelerates by itself then slows down it's like it jerks me forward alot and makes ppl think I'm reving the engine at them or trying to race them when I'm not lol does that sound like a throttle body position sensor ? I only know what Google and YouTube shows/tells me .. any help y'all can give me would be great! Thanks

Chock up a nope, for Google. We don't even have a throttle body on our diesels

Sounds like your ICP sensor going south. It's on the driver's side head about 1/3 of the way back from the very front. Unplug it. If it corrects the problem the sensor needs replaced. You will get a constant check engine light tho

We don't actually have a tps on these engines. What we do have is an accelerator pedal position sensor as well as an idle validation switch. Both of these sensors are located on the accelerator pedal assembly, and are viewable PID's via Forscan. The APP is best viewed as a voltage and should show about 0.6v at idle and I want to say 4.2v at WOT. You can check this w/ Forscan KOEO and slowly press the pedal to the floor. You should see a fairly steady increase as you go without any jerking or jumps in the readout. The IVS is just a simple momentary type switch that reports either on or off, but if it's sending the wrong information it can send the PCM turning cartwheels. I would try recording a few episodes w/ Forscan to see if those sensors act up when the problem presents. You can load the files here if you need any help interpreting them.

Here's some links from our Tech Section that should get you up to speed on Forscan. I'd you don't already have working diagnostics software it is the best option there is for these trucks, and if you are going to own one of these classics then a scan device that can live stream engine PID's and log the data files is required.

Depending on what format you use the app. on here and the individual instruction files.

Once you are comfortable enough to do datalogging with FORScan, read this:

Datalogging is the most effective way to diagnose issues with transient response.
