Door lock rod

You guys have no idea how infuriating this is.
The door lock rod is just simply messed up. The image is a photo of the proper driver one I just put the new clip on, and the video is the passenger side one. The rod simply WILL NOT go to the spot where it sits unless I apply major force, making it impossible to get the clip on..

I just did the locks on my truck. Yes, it's frustrating. The first one took about 40 minutes, the second one only took 10.
Put the plastic clip in the hole first, then push the rod in, then manipulate the part of the plastic clip that goes around the rod to hold it in place.
I wore a head lamp and on the passenger side, put my left forearm in the door parallel to the bottom of the window and put my right hand in the door through a different opening.
I used a small flathead screwdriver, just larger than the size you would use on eye glasses, to get the flexible part of the plastic clip to wrap around the rod, while pressing the rod into the hole.
The key is arranging your arms and hands inside the door... It's a b#@&. Edit: Mine is an '88, so it's a little different but it's all about arm position and being able to see. Hope this helps.

After I realized yours is different than mine, I watched a couple of YouTube videos. It looks like most tubers do it from outside the door and use needlenose vice grips to keep from dropping the rod inside the door.

True story
You can replace the lockset without removing the door panels

The problem is even if I get the clip onto the rod I’m pushing so hard to get the rod over to the hole that when I try to manipulate the lock cylinder to go back into its spot spot the clip pops off

Someone with your year of truck is going to have to chime in. After my first post, I realized my '88 is different than your '92.

You have to hold your mouth just right on 'em both
You just barely pull the lock rod out the hole far enough to get the clip onto the ley and cylinder
So, the easiest way is to leave the plastic clip on the rod and remove it from the lock cylinder
I never even see much of the metal rod,
You do this by just pulling the lock cylinder out far enough to get the plastic clip off
You are manipulating just the plastic clip on and off of the lock cylinder
We used to have to change locksets for the police and highway partol, hundreds, got proficient
