Seems my 240,000k E250 had the hood slammed too many times? It won't stay latched anymore. Seems to latch down when I slam the crap out of it but then at the end of the day it has popped open. I definitely see deformation and wear on the steel insert in the fiberglass hood indicating that I might either want to move the bottom part of the latch upwards or repair/replace the hood or $teel insert?
I think I'll drill larger clearance holes for the pins. The latch assy looks great. Greased it... all looks good except hood portion of latch system.
BTW I did not drill anything, lubrication is the solution to so many problems : )
All good questions - lubrication ... <bowing head, hiding eyes> just make money. It's an '05 E250. installed all new 1 ton front end. steering stabilizer. paid $6k in 2017. added $10k++. since. nothing special. redid 4.6 intake manifold twice. Darn that coolant temp sensor underneath! hee hee I think it is the second engine and second tranny in this van.
Fiberglass hood yes - the steel insert is riveted with lots of elastomer holding it in.
I will show a photo in the next few days.
But with moly lube it is working now, the basic problem was lack of maintenance - hey couldda lasted 600k miles eh ha ha just kidding
This is a business van so I need to fix it properly.
The hoods on my last 2 vans (06 and 11) were definitely all metal, the hood on my 11 now has a couple small divots from a hail storm a couple days ago.
