Have a 2004 F250 5.4l 2v and will be doing a timing chain replacement. I have a ticking sound coming from the passenger side rear valve cover, thinking it is a roller follower. If it is should I replace them all, what brand should I use and is there a good video showing how to do the 2v follower if different from the 3v and what is the correct tool to do it? I was looking on Amazon for the tools to lock down the cam and for the followers but every thing I see is either for a 3v or states it is only for up to 2002. Not sure what would be different for a 03/04. Just want to have everything lined up before hand. Also is Felpro good valve cover and timing cover gaskets? Thank you
All of the internal parts you use should be Motorcraft. As far as just that follower, you could inspect and just replace the bad m. Since you only have 16, may be best to do them all or at least the ones on that bank. For those, you can always go back in a replace them.
as far as felpro gaskets, I used them for timing cover and valve cover when I did my timing "job" this past spring. No leaks in 5 months. I have an expedition with a 3v and I did not change phasers, followers, lash adjusters, chains, or oil pump. I'm of the opinion to only change what presents as failed. Yes I know the right thing to do is everything. But then why not just replace entire engine? I only replaced tensioners and guides.
so it's possible to just replace the bad follower if it is that. You're not missing any exhaust studs in that head are you? You should be able to use the follower tool to remove select followers to neutralize the engine and place at top dead center.
