Exhaust setup build
I'm thinking of starting with some long Tube headers because mine is about to rust out, then I belive I'll have to custom fab a y pipe due to I can't find just the y pipe and to top it I have a widowmaker muffler so I don't get neighborly threats.
I hear there's a bunch of fitment issues with LTs but ive heard of some with minimal changes and im not opposed to shortys I just assume they need more fab work due to the cats being deleted.
Any thoughts are appreciated and yes I know I'm a pine cone. 👍
That said longtubes are better suited to the stock engines powerband, an appropriatekly sized system will produce noticable gains(over stock) at the lowest rpms. I have used a local muffler shop to fabricate a Y pipe for longtubes and have also built my own from mendrel bent sections, both worked well but I went too big with my DIY effort and as a result actually lost some off idle response and the system was louder than I would have liked. The best performing system I ever had on a truck 5.0 was a complete MAC system that consisted of 1.5" tube longtubes and a 2.5" midsection, unfortunately I think that company is now gone but that system could be replicated using other brand products. Also note that the cheapest Flowtech and Holley longtubes are not the best fit, they mostly clear everything but they hang too low and are too long and create clearance issues at the transmission crossmember.
