Howdy all -
New to the world of classic Ford trucks, new owner of a 1964 F100, and new to the forum. Great resource of information!
My truck has a steering wheel that is 'period correct', but I am 99% certain that it is not the original. It has some cracks which I have filled with JB Weld, but I've come to reluctant conclusion that it should be replaced.
Are original steering wheels to be had, or are they more the category of unobtainium? Either way, what do you all recommend for a period-correct replacement?
Thank you -
Dennis carpenter reproduces them, or used to. If they are not in stock give them a call, they may be waiting for more interest before they start a new batch
Welcome to FTE! Clean and solid Flareside you have there! Appears you have the original 3 spoke wheel, and as 1966F100SC correctly stated, is reproduced. When you get your replacement, is it possible to give us the weight of the repro vs. weight of the original?
...since you're already using the JB weld...I prefer PC 7, but the same idea. Grind out the cracks to the metal frame. Fill in with epoxy, sand to contour, epoxy prime and top coat with acrylic enamel. I have a steering wheel that I refinished this way and it's still in excellent shape after 25 years.
