Brake shutter
Brake shutter
I have a 2000 Excursion, 4x4, V10, 180k miles, that I’m having brake problems with. If I apply the brakes between 50-60 mph I feel a shutter that eventually goes away at 40 mph. I don’t feel in the steering wheel, and have replaced calipers, rotors, pads, and all rubber hoses on all four corners, but still have the problem. I had original rotors turned before they were replaced. The tires are fairly new Michelin LTX and had the problem before I got them. Had the alignment shop inspect the front end and nothing found. Is there any suspension part that can cause this? Do they make drilled and slotted rotors? What are my pad options?
Have you checked your wheels out? You may have a crack. As your wheels spin faster, the crack may open up more making symptoms worse. Just a thought.
Don’t buy crossed drilled rotors. The holes in the rotors at higher temperatures will crack. I don’t how many HPDEs (High Performance Driving Events) I been to and found a rookie’s car sidelined because the holes developed crack large enough to effect the safety, let alone the damage. Slotted are OK. They don’t crack; at least I’ve never seen any. They just cost more.
