Okay fellas I need your input here. When braking from 0 to 45mph and less my brakes are surging. Not only can I feel it I can see it, meaning I watch the front of the truck bounce up and down. There is no pulsating in the brake pedal so I ruled out a problem with the ABS. Steering wheel doesn't shake, and no vibration issues when driving. So, is it warped rotors or a combination of things? Any ideas?
I had a similar problem a few months ago. Turned the front rotors. Problem solved. They were weren't off too much. I watched them being turned. Took only one pass to 'clean' them up. My cousin, who owns the parts store, was surprised when I told him it did the trick. He turned them for free. I owe him lunch.
Yeah I was getting a back and forth motion when applying the brakes and the front end would hop up and down when I would brake hard. But my rotors were really bad and I had next to nothing left on my pads.
You could have air in the lines. I actually bled mine after I was done, just so I could put in new brake fluid. You might want to bleed yours and see if it helps.
I'm almost in the same boat as Roland... when I bought my truck the brakes were horrible. I had the front rotors turned and it cleaned up 90% of the problem, even though the rotors were close to spec. On a later inspection, I found a hanging rear caliper that had ground the rotor down to almost nothing on one side... 1 new rotor and caliper and turned the other and it's as good as new.
