Good morning fellow 7.3 owners. So I have a weird question and I honestly don’t know where to start. So I was going to change out the fuel pump on the side rail and come to find out the one I purchased was wrong. The one that is currently on the truck is for a 6.0. Do they work the same? I believe going on it’s way out and need a vehicle to get to work. What can I do about this issue to be resolved. Thanks again.

Why not just replace the one you have? Or at the very least, replace the filter and see how it goes?
It’s a first for me also. I haven’t had any issues with it but now it seems to whine a lot more. So I figured replace the pump itself. I could give just replacing the filter a shot first and see how it goes, and then so forth. I’ll keep you posted on it.

A noisy fuel pump like that would indicate that the filter is clogged. Hopefully it's all you need. Most of those rotary style pumps last for decades. What kills them is the brushes finally wear out and they stop turning. They don't give a lot of warning, either. One day they work, the next day they don't. Sometimes banging on the fuel pump while someone else is cranking on the starter will bump it to life, but that's only good for a short while. That goes for just about every make and model of vehicle that runs with an electric rotary type fuel pump.
What you have mounted on the frame is an improvement, IMO, to what Ford put there in the first place. I would try and keep it the way it is because you have that replaceable fuel filter.
I do not have the stock fuel bowl up top, on side frame rail. It’s 6.0 pump/filter with a e fuel set up with a regulated return. That’s what my friend has told me when I sent a video to him
Pump has filter inside of. The other one is in the fuel bowl In valley which is the small one. Correct? I’ll swap those out either today or tmrw, if that what I gotta do.
