Ok, so in our truck, the switch lights in the dome light assembly, won't turn on when you flip the black switch on either one. I took the dome light assembly out and checked the bulbs, and they look okay. I didn't have any spare replacement bulbs at the time so I got some new ones just today, but life prevented me from putting them in, so it will have to wait till another day. At the moment I'm just wondering if any one else has had this issue, and if so, of there is a fix to it. If the bulbs are good, the only thing I would suspect is that some part of the dome light assembly is shorted out for some reason, or the light switches are bad? I have no clue when the issue started, or how long it's been like that, as no one who has used the truck can remember. Any help is appreciated.

There is a ground connection to the roof there. The way they do that ground connection is kinda funky. Be carefuel with it because they are easy to foul. Has it worked before and stopped working recently? Also check the fuse.

The fuse is good, the main dome light that is connected to the door jam switches comes on and turns off when the doors open and close. Again, no one who has used the truck can remember when the lights stopped working, this is the first time in about 20 years we have looked at this. Is the ground screw connected to the black wire or does it ground directly to the top of the cab?
There's a black wire on mine. The end of the wire fitting is cheap. I need to replace that fitting on mine now. It's on my list. This might not be your issue but worth checking.
I'm curious, do you have the under hood light? I think they are on the same fuse with the dome. Make sure the wire for the hood light does not get caught in the hood hinge. That can foul the operation of that circuit.
Here's a diagram. You are correct, the same fuse that feeds the domelight circuit also powers the map lights. You should have power all the time at the socket on the lightgreen/yellow wire. If you do not have power there, the next thing I would do is pull the threshold on the driver's side and inspect the wiring under it. All these wires run under there and up the driver's side B pillar. They live a rough life under that driver's side sill plate.
Guys it sounds like he may have map lights in the dome light assy. because of the black switches.
He also said the dome light comes on with the doors open / close so it has to be with the light assy.

If you look at the diagram, there are separate wires for the map lights and the domelights running all the way from the fuse box and the door switches. So it could be a wiring issue, he will have to check for voltage there at the domelight..
