Column Shift lever removal

71 F100 automatic steering column. I want to replace the shift lever grommet that goes around the base of the lever where it goes into the collar. Looks like it has some kind of pin that goes through it holding the lever and grommet to the collar. How should I try to remove this?

There is a pin that holds the column shift lever in place, find the correct size flat end punch, and hammer and drive the pin thru.

Hammer from the top bottom or doesn’t matter

I don't think it makes any difference which way you tap it out, the tool you use is a flat pointed round punch. The pin is a round hole pin it is #19 in this LMC illustration.
