After my truck warms up, my engine will surge for a second then idle down. It does this consistently once the engine is warm. I cleaned the IAC valve and throttle body. I read somewhere that there was an issue with some gasket deteriorating and getting stuck causing blockage somewhere, resulting in idle issues. Any idea on what part that was? I want to say it was the mass airflow sensor? Thanks.
Alot of surging idle complaints are caused by vacuum leaks. These trucks are over 30 years old and the vacuum hoses crack like pretzels. Take a good look at all your vacuum hoses. Spray brake cleaner around your intake manifold while the engine is running and listen for changes in the rpm.

There is no gasket between the air box lid and the MAF sensor to get stuck. Not only that but your ‘90 does not have a mass air sensor.
