5w20 vs 5w30?

Took my new 2022 f150 5 litre into the ford dealer for its first oil change.(5k miles) The 5.0 engine calls for 5w30 oil.The dealer put 5w20 in it.This is my 12th F150,and the first time I didn,t do my own oil change.(getting old).Should I go back and bitch or do you really think it will matter?

How do you know it's 5-20, the receipt? Maybe the genius tech thought he was looking at a V6? Was there a spec change?

Probably not a big deal, but it's their specs, and I would take it back and make them put in the correct oil per their own specs. Then tell them that they should pay attention to the work they perform. What's next, wrong plugs? Wrong Filters? Wrong tire size?

yes, the reciept says 5w20.the fill cap on the valve cover says 5w30.The reciept also says 8 quarts which I believe only the 5.0 takes.

I would double check that quantity. My '18 requires 8.8 quarts. You might be a little low.

Yes, take it back and make them change it again at their expense.

My stepson has a 2017 5.0L truck. He always has the dealer do the oil change and they always fill it to just 8 qts. I've explained to him that the dealer is underfilling the crankcase by .8 of a quart.

I'd want the oil that is spec'd for the engine for sure. Before going back to the dealer I'd check two things...park the truck on level ground and check the oil level, and also see if the owner's manual says 5w20 is okay. Many engines have a range of acceptable oil viscosities depending on the ambient temps.

The spec is 7.7 quarts of 5w30.......period

Have them fix their mistake, and maybe chew out the tech.

7.7qt 5w20 was the older 5.0. 2018 or 19 they upped it to 8.85qt of 5w20. The 2.7 and 3.5 EcoBoost engines are 6qt 5w30 in the trucks.

Charging for 8qts like that is standard practice everywhere. Sounds like Ford can't decide which oil pan size to use.

The reason why, at 71, I still do my own oil changes. I get the "getting old" though.
