Hi all,
I put in an order for a Ford OEM Brake Controller back in November. Still waiting. I'm about out of time so I have started to look at aftermarket Brake Controllers. Any recommendations? My truck is a 2021 F-150 Supercab 4x4 with the 5.0. My build date is August 2021 so I should be good to go with adding an aftermarket controller easier than pre-August builds from what I've found on line. I mainly tow single and double axle boat trailers. Advice and recommendations appreciated.
Nobody on here has added an aftermarket brake controller to their truck? No recommendations? Just hoping somebody can tell me if it was easy/hard/impossible and what to avoid. Any suggestion are appreciated.
This may be old info as it's been about 15 years since I've had this. Ford used to include a pigtail and I believe a relay and fuse to go in the panel under the hood. The pigtail plugged in under the dash and wired to after market controller with their color to color instructions. Then a few adjustments and you were done. I'll look under my dash and see if the connector to plug into still exists, I may even have a pigtail if it is still doable.
So I looked under the dash on mine and don't see where this pigtail might have worked but it has the factory controller . I suppose that died in the overly computerized world but if you happen to find a grey open connecter on yours I'll send a pic of pigtail to see if it will work. If I recall it would be just to the left of brake pedal. If you or any body else can use this pigtail I'll send it.
And if you go aftermarket- Redarc makes a nice hideaway one. Tekonsha P3 is the good old tried and true, but it's quite the knee knocker. e-trailer will hook you up with the right parts and harnesses.
Thank you for the responses. Yes, I have looked elsewhere for the part...same results. It's just back-ordered. I am leaning toward a unit from Redarc...and ordering from e-trailer. I have used e-trailer for a number of things, and received great communication, incredible service and a good deal money wise, so hard to beat.
I started laughing when I opened my e-mail this morning. The brake controller I ordered back in November has been shipped. I am glad it finally came back in stock and shipped. Now to figure out how to use Forscan to properly add the controller to the truck.
