Is this really common on the 6.7's? I keep seeing advertisements on replacing the stock pipe with the aftermarket models, (I think its the cold side going into the cooler). Mine is fine but should this be addressed? 2017 w/65k miles
If it starts feeling spongey or crumbly, then replace it (before it rips). Aftermarket ones are typically thicker and heavier-duty than OEM. Some even come as metal.

Its an issue if you tow heavy. If not, then it is not an issue. Most all reports have been when pulling, and at maximum turbo boost.
So just last night I helped my cousin put a new cold side pipe on his 2020 with 139k on the clock. He went with the H&S Motorsports kit. It was fairly easy to install and seemed to be of good quality.
Then today after lunch I popped my hood to check oil and what do I see? A one inch slit showing up in my same cold side hose with 100k on the clock. SIGH... why does Ford put this junk on these trucks??
What's the best aftermarket replacement? S&B still the favorite?
My blew yesterday, was just about to start a new post and saw this one.
It is a 2012 with 180k easy miles, some towing and plowing but never far. Figured if mine had not blown by now then I was good. Drove Maine to FL a few wks ago and after baking in the sun down here, the funky connector at the intake side exploded.
Local napa had the below fix in stock for under 200 bucks. Actually well made and NOT plastic. Parking lot fix in 15min. Need 7/16" deep to zip oem clamps off, 10mm deep for new ones. Pliers are handy for wiggling the air intake temp sensor back on, or some lube if not in a parking lot, lol. Long 1/4" extension helps to get that lower clamp off the Intake Cooler down low. Go ahead and do the fix if you are keeping the truck!
Dorman OE Fix - Cold Side Intercooler Pipe Kit
Part #: NOE 667300
I replaced mine pre-break, as a preventive measure, with a Rudy's kit as well. Probably about 75k miles on my aftermarket cold CAC pipe with no issues, until I installed my S&S DPK and didn't clean the pipe and coupler well enough and she popped off on my test drive after install complete... cleaned off real good and used a suggestion from here, sprayed my wife's hairspray on the pipe and coupler. Allowed it to sit overnight to set up. No problems since.
The aftermarket hoses are much stronger with more reinforcement, and made of silicon (oil resistant). I went with the H&S on mine. The OEM didn't fail; it was a preemptive replacement on my part.
But I am considering the Parker Intakes cold pipe for the future, it has two ports on it for say a Snow Performance's methanol injection kit, just saying it is possible... and those ports are after the IAT sensor. Ask Fritz about the problem he had with his methanol kit and the SPE cold pipe.
