73 250 camper special. I am needing new shocks. When I checked Rock Auto it was hard to tell which would work best. Some said "not for camper special".also it looked like coil spring struts were available. Is that an upgrade? I am wanting to haul a pretty heavy street bike on trailor hitch. And have some gravel roads that are a serious washboard situation ahead of me this summer.
I used the Monroe 34900 on the front and 34911 on the rear of my 70 f250 camper special. It does say not for the camper special for the 34911 but that is the one that fits on my truck. On the Rockauto site, just click on the picture and see if it matches yours. I dont know which others will fit but those are the only ones I have used before.
Any running F-250 should haul any bike no problems, or pull any "bike trailer" designed just to haul bikes ... no need for coil over helpers.

And you DO NOT want to use shock mounts to support any weight as they were not made to do so.
Just because coil over shocks are made dose not mean they are right!
That also goes for air shocks if they are still made.

So should I stick with the 5100s then? Thats all I've ever replaced shocks with but I have been curious about the Foxs, probably not worth the hassle to try and make coilovers work. I doubt I would notice the difference I'm not planning on haulin or off roading. The only advantage I can see is the rebuild factor on the foxes but I'm sure there are downsides to that and probably won't save me much. Realistically if I made it to the point of "A" rebuild how much would I truly save in time and money?
Has anyone here done the any Bilstein's on a lowboy? I'm having trouble find the stock specs, what size bilsteins I would need and lift information. My front end needs to get leveled out because the 460 drops it quite a bit. The truck originally came witha 400m in it, not sure how much the 460 would have made it squat and then the how much it has sagged over time factors.
