I have a 78 SC 2wd Camper Special that I need to replace the rear shocks on. Everywhere I look for shocks the its the same thing they all say "w/o Camper Special" for every shock listed. Are they really different? I will not be towing or hauling anything remotely heavy can I just go with the standard Monroe rear shock #34911 or am I missing something?
I ordered and installed the yellow Monroe gas-magnum shocks #34900 up front and would like to match the rear if possible.
I would think that it's because those trucks were set up with heavy-duty leaf springs and shocks to accommodate the added weight of a slide-in camper, and that special exception is listed to preserve that capability. Since you don't care about that aspect, put what you want on.
I had ordered the MONROE 34958 shock (without actually looking at my setup) as it was the only one that said "Rear; RWD; Crew Cab Pickup; w/ Camper Special" but I found out the hard way the crew cab uses bushing mounts on the top of the shock where the SC Camper Special uses the Stem mount.
It can never be easy can it
