Anyone using Baldwin B7379 filter

I tried the b7379 filter

my thought was run it during the warm months and switch back to stock during cooler/cold months

i ran this filter during the spring with 5w40 oil

fir the first time I heard some moaning a high speeds

pulled the filter and went back to stock

there was also for the first time lost of metal dust on my magnetic drain plug.

i don’t think my 6.7 liked this 9 micron filter.

i have since switched to a 25 micron stainless steel filter for high flow and a 2 micron by pass . No moaning or metal dust since removing the b7379

interested in other experiences with this filter

if you run this filter…you might be better served to run 10w30 and definitely have a good bag plug installed.

happy sunday

Thanks for the insight Fritz... Ever since my first diesel, new 2004 F350 with the 6.0 - have always been attentive to use of OEM oil/fuel filters. Even with PTT ARod's assessment of the HSM upper/lower fuel filter replacements/updates - still haven't pulled the trigger, "yet". Maybe a leap of faith I need to explore.

double check the micron rating of the to-be filters vs the stock ones.

2017 and later have 2 micron in engine bay filters and 2016 and earlier have 4 micron ones. The ham filters are only 4 micron

You have a source for that info... that the 17 plus engine filters are rated at 2 microns as opposed to 11 to 16s at 4 microns?

im recalling the table top fuel system diagram for the two have different engine bay fuel filter specs.

not to say that if didn’t change later .

let me know if you see the 4 in the 11-16 and the 2 in the 17 and later.

So now I can’t remember where I saw the 2 micron engine bay filter spec.

i found the 2011-2016 diagram and it shows 4 micron

also found the 2020 diagram and it shows 4 micron

so are our engine bay filters really 4 micron?

One micron is 1/1000 mm (1/25,000 of an inch).
2 microns or 4 micron filter size, I'm pretty sure we are all going to be fine.

I think in the 2007 (or thereabouts) revision of J1985 4 micron effectively became the lowest that could reliability be measured.

To the OP no I have heard of any issues running the Baldwin filter.

Update

i have used various filters

the only time I got metal fuzz on my magnetic drain plug was while running this filter

maybe the metal fuzz caused the moaning sound.
