I do have the (96) 351 and e40d installed in my 94 that was a 302 with 4r70w. I don't have it running just yet, but am getting close. The shifter that bolts onto the side of the transmission for the manual transfer case is different. The holes don't line up and the e40d holes are further forward. And, the linkage going from the shifter to the transfer case is too short. I could cut/weld/drill etc, but does anyone have the plate that bolts to the transmission and the linkage that they would sell reasonable? I don't need the shifter, just the plate that bolts to the transmission with 2 bolts that the shifter attaches to. Thanks.
In my experience, the plate is always the same - it's the length of the rod that changes with the application.
I was hoping that was the case also, but the e40d front hole is an inch closer to the front and the 2 holes are closer together. If I put the bolt in the front hole the lower shifter part hits the trans. safety switch. I want to somewhat keep the shifter centered in the shift boot also. If I can't find a plate that fits, I can modify this one or make an adapter. Lengthening the linkage will be easy, but I thought maybe someone had a plate and linkage for sale. Thanks!
Here is a picture of an e40d plate from Ebay (with shifter $200) and a picture of my plate. They are different but maybe I can modify mine if I can't find one.
