hey everyone I have a 1966 f250 and I believe I might need new backing plates, they seem to keep sticking even with new drums, and wheel cylinders. I tried smoothening the catch points but I think it made it worse. My bank account cant afford a disc conversion right now so I must make due.
what part numbers can use for the replacement front backing plates? Google has been no help in finding new correct plates. Also the current drums are the 12x 2 1/2 I think yet it was originally a 12x 2 1/8, thanks ****ty mechanic I took it to .
Any way with the drums being wrong can I find the new backing plates for those new drums and just bolt them in normal ? Again it was originally a 12 x 2 1/8 truck with bad backing plates, I would like new 12x 2 1/2 backing plates for these new front drums, any part numbers for replacements would be great or anyplace I can buy them from.

Brian Morrison in Oregon has lots of used parts for our trucks.
1966 F250 2WD could have either 12 1/8" x 2" front/rear drum brakes OR 12" x 2 1/2" front/rear drum brakes.
C6TZ-2012-A .. Front Backing Plate - Use with 12" x 2 1/2" brakes / Right/Left is the same / Obsolete
1966/72 F250 2WD
Thanks Numbers Dummy, do you happen to know what other part numbers this could be cross referenced with? I searched it but I don't see any thing new. Its as if these plates are not being reproduced like you said " obsolete" , is my best bet to look for them at the boneyard and hope they are in better shape than my current ones or do you happen to know what new backing plates would be compatible? I see some that look similar but they all say for Chevy and often they are for the rear...
Thanks again - Henry's66
P.S glad to see you posting again, you were M.I.A for a while, had me a little worried that you left us all hanging , Ha Ha. Thanks again and glad to see you back in action.

There is no cross reference for this 1966 part number, since this same number was used thru 1972. 1973 and later F250 2WD's have front disc brakes.
This part number has probably been obsolete since the late 1970's.
No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has this C6TZ-2012-A backing plate.
If you pull the backing plate off and sandblast it. It should have a Bendix number stamped on it. You can search that number who knows there might be a new one out there somewhere. You can build up the worn places with weld metal and grind or machine them back to original size. I have done that to some unobtainable backing plates before.

^^^ This.
Backing plate are usually hard to find or are worn out too. The important thing is to fill up the groves with a mig welder and grind them back to be smooth. Don't remove more material or you will run into other issues.
I know this is an old thread but I ended up pulling the spindles and backing plates off a 72 down at the bone yard, the brakes were complete had almost new shoes, springs, and wheel cylinders, kept it all the same and bolted it back together. this summer I plan on re-doing all the hardlines and finding new self adjusters as these ones I don't think are working.
