4r100 od question
Lights always flashing. Sometimes od kicks in sometimes just 3 forward gears. Checked fluid. It’s fine. When od works, the switch works but blinks. When ur won’t go into it od, same blinking.
Earlier today it was only going 3 gears. So I keyed it off, keyed it on, turn off od started. Drove it and turned on od once u was at speed. Kicked right in. What in the hell is happening?

Something is wrong. Without reading the codes that is as specific as anyone can get. Read the codes and we can go right to the problem.
The places that read codes free CANNOT read these codes. You can read them with Forscan which you can download free at www.forscan.org. Their page shows how to select an OBDII port adapter. I bought mine for less than $30.
Or you could take it to a good independent shop or a Ford dealer and pay them to read the codes.
WIthout the codes you cannot fix this.

Just an fyi. We have bunch of 7.3s and 6.0s and we are use to keeping them running off junkyard parts. Put bunch used parts in these things.
I had 6.0 5r110 that was doing something similar to this previously and strangely enough. It was a used Trany been sitting in a lot for a few years. After few days of running it, it is doing fine now. Runs and pulls really well
this 4r100 is now spinning thru all the gears well. It was from the same junkyard. Been sitting a while. For some unknown reason still getting blinking light but it’s behaving well. Idk if the solenoids just needed working

That means codes have been stored. They will tell you what's wrong. Either read the codes or wait for the transmission to fail.
